Yes, the La Quinta Inn on 11th street offers the best rates given the prime location. It is certainly not a 4 or 5 star hotel (maybe not even a 3), but it is right in the heart of downtown.
I hope you have a safe trip and enjoy your stay!
***UPDATE - Normally the rooms run anywhere from $89-99, but I guess they are hiking prices up because of SXSW. Unfortunately, the La Quinta is one of the only dives in the area.

motel 6 on the corner is… its a little ways to walk but its not that bad .. i want to say its about 65-85 a night

Extended Stay America is on 6th and Guadalupe, their rates are usually comparable or cheaper to LQ, but they do not have valet parking like LQ does. (Valet parking at LQ is about $12/night and it’s mandatory if you have a car)
There really are not any other options for cheap and walking distance to 6th St.

If you’re gonna go to sixth street, I bet there would be some crazy hippie that would take you in for the night. You wouldn’t even have to worry about hotel costs. lol
