For a cheap business class hotel try the Ibis Seoul (close to City Air Terminal) and they operate a free shuttle service. There are restaurants and bars within walking distance..

Lived in seoul for a couple of years, depends what you are looking for and which area you want to be in. There are thousands of Motels, but can be a bit seedy…look down any back alley and you will see them all lit up with female cards thrown around, you could try staying around Boramae park wil cost you no more than 25,000 about £12.50 a night with fridge, en suite, hair-dryer, sat television, and all the seedy porn you can watch…If in the UK email me and maybe we can chat, my wife is korean and can arrange anything you may need

I used a few hotel searching engine and the attached has a wide range of hotels for Asia cities with good price. It cover many hotels in Seoul and the price are very good. There are a few hotels starting from $50 a night.

You may book a hotel in Seoul, or for frugal travelers, go to YEOGAN(i.e., Motel). The YEOGAN is usually family owned and it offers a private room for hours/days/months. The amenities are usually similar to that of Motels here, however, you have to share a bathroom(usually one per motel) with 5 to 6 guests. When I say sharing, think of it as a college dorm bathroom. It is cheap, but it’s not listed on the internet nor any directory known. You may have to ask a taxi-driver or walk around alleys and look for a sign. Taxi drivers are a great resouce when you need to find something. I think the motels charges anywhere from $10.00 to $50.00 depending on the location. The owners can even offer laundry svcs and Korean breakfast at a very reasonable price.
Good luck and don’t get ripped off.

There are many guesthouses around Insadong, some offer free international telephone calls too.
Pays not to rent a room before coming, because if you dont like it you will be stuck with it… dont worry you wont be at a loss of where to stay!
The motels arent that bad, pretty soundproofed. Im not opposed to staying in them, and im a female.

My favorite place to stay in Seoul is the Seoul Motel in Itaewan. It’s about 40,000 won for a double room (about 25 pounds/ just under 40 dollars I think). It’s in a pretty good location and because it’s in Itaewan most folk will speak english and can direct you. Enjoy your stay!
